For the last couple of months we’ve been teaching Kaileigh some simple sign language, so that she has a way to express herself while her voice is getting easier to control.
She’s learned the signs for light, dog, drink, cookie, sleep. She’s learning the signs for eat, car, motorcycle, up, down.
By far her favorite sign is the one for light. The sign’s easy and fun – just go from open hand to fist, over and over. It’s like flashing a light. It turns out that when this is your favorite sign, and you’re just learning the magic of communication, that you notice there are lights EVERYWHERE – in lamps, in ceilings, in the oven, in tracts and halogen at the store, in front of cars, on trees and in front of houses this time of the year, on the front of cell phones, on and on and on. Everywhere.
The Lord nudged me this morning as I was thinking about this.
What if I were able to see the Light of the World in my environment as easily as Kaileigh notices lights? What if I were able to see the God’s Kingdom at work and participate?
Show me, Lord.
