For all who are local:

You are invited to an informational evening on Saturday, June 25 for the purpose of raising awareness of the critical situation in the eastern African nation of Sudan and to raise money for relief efforts for the refugees of the genocide in that region.

As many of you are aware, for the past several years there has been a genocide occurring in Sudan. In a shockingly similar situation to the one that was documented in the movie Hotel Rwanda, there is ethnic cleansing (genocide) that is virtually unnoticed in the West. As of this moment, some 200,000 people have been murdered and more than 1.6 million people have been displaced from their homes and moved into refugee camps on the way to surrounding countries. The website http://www.savedarfur.org has more information.

We would love to invite you (and everybody you would like to bring with you) to an educational evening in two parts:

5:00 – 7:00: Watch the Academy Award-nominated movie Hotel Rwanda, starring Don Cheadle. [Note! This movie is rated PG-13 for violence and is not child-friendly due to its subject and depiction of the ethnic cleansing in Rwanda in 1994].

7:00 – 8:00: Participate in a slideshow by college photojournalist Rachel Havercroft (a friend of Pat’s brother), who recently returned from a trip to the Pachalla region of Sudan to document relief efforts by World Relief. I’ve included two photos from Rachel’s trip in this email.

Rachel’s slideshow is educational informative, and will include information about World Relief’s fundraising efforts to equip schools and dig freshwater wells for the refugees in the Pachalla region. [Note: This section is child-friendly.]

You’re welcome to attend either or both parts of the evening.

The evening is hosted by Mt. Si Vineyard Church and will be located at the Mt. Si Senior Center in North Bend at 411 Main Ave. S. in North Bend (directly west of the Ace Hardware store). You can find directions on our church’s website

The cry out of Africa in the 60's was "UHURU UHURU… FREEDOM, FREEDOM" Slowly, the French left, the English left, the Dutch left. Most of the African nations became self-governing. And immediately began killing their own populace in unprecedented numbers… God granted man freedom… freedom to decide for himselfe. And man began killing, and robbing, and seeking power unto himself. Just like black Africa was to do thousands of years later. Has man not learned? The only answer as I see it is the inspired Word of God. Where this is held in high regard, people don't usually kill one another.

You've inspired me, Pat. The killing in Darfur is something that I feel strongly about, but my efforts to do something have been sporadic. I'd like to be more consistent, it's been so long since I've delved into what's happening, I'm no longer current.

It is so important that everyone is shown just what is going on in our world. It saddens me to see all the pain, suffering and loss all these people have gone through. Rachel Havercrofts pictures are an inspiration. Just through the eyes of the ones she's captured you feel so much, and can see the cry out for help through their eyes. This is a serious matter. All lives are preciouse. Thank you Rachel and othrs for giving us the experience to know what is happening in our world and what needs to change. This has forever changed many lives.

Hey I was just surfing around and decided to post a short comment here. I run a movie review message board and am looking for people to write reviews and contribute at my forum. You can even post a link to your blog on your signature file at my forum. It's all good! Take care.
