Master and Commander

Last night I met up with a couple of friends to have dinner and watch Master and Commander, the sailing warfare epic with Russell Crowe. Good flick. The ending made a lot of people in the theatre (us included) stick around to recap what we thought we just saw. Kinda like Matrix 3 did, and Matrix 2, though nobody wanted to talk after Matrix 2 – our brains were scrambled.

The visual scenery is just stunning – if you like wood boats and rope, and lots and lots and lots of ocean. As an armchair sailor, I was awestruck at the scenery.

I’d highly recommend the movie. It’s a very unique story, a period piece about 19th century naval warfare, and with fasicnating themes around heroism, courage, duty, honor, seasickness, drinking songs, weevils and the conflicts between friendship and leadership.

But mainly we’re biding or time until Lord of the Rings: Return of the King comes out. 🙂
