In recent years there has been new interest in what many are calling ‘missional church’ – that is, church whose structure is aimed more at being sent into our communities than a structure aimed at attracting people in from outside its doors.
Without a doubt, the godfather in this movment came generations before with Church of the Saviour in Washington, DC. I was blessed to visit one of the parts of this church, the Servant Leadership School, a couple of years ago and it was deeply impacting on me.
Today via Eliacin I saw this story, that the Church of the Savior is going through a huge transition, as founder Gordon Cosby, nearing 90, preached his last sermon and the church is considering dying to its former (already countercultural) expression, and existing as something else.
I cannot highly enough recommend the work of Church of the Saviour through sixty years of ministry. The below article tells where they find themselves today.
