A while back I received another batch of goodies from The Ooze for review. In that shipment was a CD by Evensong Rising.

i’ve listened through several times now and am ready to write a bit about it here.

I recommend this CD for fans of contemporary worship, and especially if you like a bit of an edge to your music. There’s a pretty wide variety of feel in this album – at various times I’m reminded of O.A.R., Dave Matthews Band, a bit of Red Hot Chili Peppers, some Alicia Keys. The bass work is really interesting, and the female lead vocalists in this 7-piece band have a great touch.

I enjoy the liturgical progress of the CD, with each song participating in a worship event in a particular moment from processional through doxology and benediction.

While I didn’t find myself listening to any particular track and thinking, “Oooh, I’ve gotta learn to play this one!” and there were a few forgettable song, there were several tracks (1 and 3 in particular) that I want to listen to many times over and that help me to relate to my God in a creative way. Which is really what we’re looking for in a worship album, isn’t it?
