Q&A with McKnight

(I missed some other Q’s…)

Q: Can the megachurch be missional, or is it ownly owned by small/simple/organic/emerging church?

A: Willow for example is now trying to do the gathered church on Sun AM with a neighborhood (scchool area) focus during the week. Absolutely – the big chruch can be msisional. Sunday gatheirng isn’t the mission.

Q: When I go overseas, I see a focus and efect of healing; why do you think that the preaching/teaching/healing thing drops healing here in the Steates, and we don’t do that?

A: I believe that the Gospel is the work of the triune God – Father/son/spirit. The mission of the gospel is to restore cracked icons (genesis). As icons we are created – related in four directions (4 parts of sign of cross: god, self, others, world) . THe ikon glows when we are related to the world in those 4 areas. In the western tradition we are radical dualists; the bodydoesn’t matter. (I’m currently writing a book on fasting). One of the rasons we don’t fast much, i’m persuaded, is b/c the body doesn’t matter to spirituality in our eyes. but in the gospell, god comes to restore us heart/soul/mind/strength. strength is physical. We are to be healed in those areas (holistic). For the good of others and the world.
