Back from vacation

My family arrived home at some unreasonable hour last night/this morning after spending 2 weeks in a very nice hotel in Playa del Carmen on the Mexican Riviera. South of Cancun by an hour and about 200′ from the ferry terminal to Cozumel, the world’s best scuba diving location – and home of my favorite place on the planet, which I plan to unveil when I get my pictures downloaded.

I had planned to upload pictures daily to my flickr site, but my (our church’s) laptop died on day 1 of the trip, and won’t power on. Of course, my last backup was months ago… but I don’t think anything critical was lost. Dell will have to look at the machine. In any case, I’m now facing about 7GB of images to sort through. But first… Christmas Eve day, worshiping with my friends this morning and spending time with my family tonight and tomorrow.

We missed out on the latest storm of the century here in Seattle. Our home was without electricity for some 5 days; my hot water heater blew up (and is still DOA), and we had a gas leak that was detected by my sister-in-law who was watching over the place. We could have had a scary situation, as the home was being watched by my mother-in-law, who goes out into the garage – right next to the water heater – for a smoke, and if she were here at the time, we would have had a tragedy. Thanks be to God for cold weather which drove her to another of our family’s homes before the gas leak hit.

My God bless you with a rich sense of the Hope of Christ today and tomorrow.

I’m off to take a cold shower and get ready for church.  And to see if the shingle on my front yard is from my own roof, or a neighbor’s.
