Inspired by Rachelle’s list, and via the master site, here are 43 things I’d like to see or do before I die. Some are big, some are small. In no particular order…

1. Circumnavigate the world by sailboat
2. Circumnavigate the world by motorcycle
3. Finish and medal in the Iron Butt Rally
4. Foster-adopt siblings
5. Learn guitar well enough to play a nice version of ‘Round Midnight
6. Backpack the Pacific Crest Trail
7. Just for once, catch up on the books-to-be-read pile
8. Speak Spanish well enough to communicate simply with my Latin American friends
9. Do a 40-day Ignatian retreat
10. Hold my grandchildren
11. See spiritual great-great-grandchildren (where a “spiritual grandchild” is seeing somebody whom you’ve introduced to faith in Jesus lead somebody else to faith)
12. Mountain bike Moab, and re-visit Crested Butte
13. Learn to fly an airplane, and get instrument-rated
14. Get recertified to SCUBA dive before the next warm-water vacation
15. Learn how to throw a good curveball
16. Ride to Panama (or Tierra del Fuego?) by motorcycle
17. Be completely confident in my God’s love for me
18. Visit Maccu Piccu
19. Learn photography
20. Visit Ireland again
21. Get laser surgery to correct my eyesight
22. Have a regular daddy-date-night ritual with my kids
23. See more live music shows
24. Buy a replacement pair of Birkenstocks (since I can’t find one of my current pair, and they’re way past worn out anyway)
25. Take regular vacations to refresh and renew
26. Visit all 50 states
27. Eat less fast food
28. Ride mountain bikes more often
29. Learn Photoshop
30. Regularly volunteer to serve the poor
31. Be married longer than any of my grandparents (who made it to 62 years and 63 years).
32. Run another marathon, finishing in under 4 hrs
33. Summit Mt. Rainier
34. Learn each of my children’s best tickle spots
35. Learn to snowboard
36. Ride a 24-hour mountain bike team race
37. Get back down to 175 lbs and stabilize there
38. Regularly experience contentment in my relationships with myself, my family and my life with God
39. Help my children take their place in society, wherever they are supposed to fit
40. Apologize well when I hurt others
41. Tell the best of my past teachers how they’ve impacted me
42. Get a spiritual director
43. Explore the dirt roads around my town
