Throughout this trip, I’ve really appreciated having my iPod. In addition to learning more about smart playlists (which allow you to do things like, for example, play all the songs in your library which are the 4th tracks on a CD; or to play all the songs with the words “hot, warm, cool, cold” in the title), I’ve been listening to more podcasts. A podcast is, briefly, a downloadable radio-style broadcast: audio broadcasting for the masses.

Until the recent release of Apple’s iTunes 4.9, a user had to manually download podcast files and add them to the iTunes library, synch with the iPod and go. With 4.9, I can now subscribe to a podcast, check daily (or hourly) for updates, and synch on the fly. I can also synch up the latest epidsode only, or all recent episodes, or only the ones I haven’t heard yet, or …

Not all podcasts are yet configured to be visible within iTunes’ podcast library (two examples are infrequent podcasts that I try to keep up with being Jordoncooper’s podcast and Radical Congruency’s podcasts). But of those visible within iTunes, I am currently tracking these, all of which I can highly recommend:

  • Baseball Prospectus Radio Podcast
  • Bluer – the Minneapolis Vineyard Church – Message
  • Conversatio Fide
  • Digital Photography Tips from the Top Floor
  • Photoshop Radio
  • Tim Bednars Podcast
  • Wired Jesus Podcast
  • I’m not linking URLs from those items since you only need to search for the title within iTunes’ Podcasts list and hit the “subscribe” button to grab them for yourself.

What others are you tracking? And I’m calling you out publicly, Justin Baeder, to enclose your podcast so that it’s published in iTunes 😉

OK, OK. I wanted to make sure I’d actually be continuing it on a semi-regular basis before submitting it. I just this week looked up how to do it.

Of course, you can manually add the feed under Advanced -> Subscribe to podcast. Mine is http://www.radicalcongruency.com/category/podcast/feed
