In preparing for this weekend’s leaders meeting, I ran across this link:
“A Leadership Shopping List” by John Wimber.
It describes leadership as a function with these attributes:
[Edit: This may be a nuanced difference, but let me quote from the article’s introduction as to what the list is meant to represent:
“Before the Anaheim Vineyard started, when I was a consultant to churches around America, one of the most common questions I would get from pastors was “How do you identify potential lay leaders?†Over a number of years, I had trained pastors in five western states on how to identify, recruit, and deploy leaders for small groups. So I wrote up a list of things I looked for in potential leaders.”
]
1. Service and Self-Sacrifice
2. Fullness of the Holy Spirit, Faith and Wisdom
3. Loyalty
4. Trustworthiness
5. Proven Ministry Ability
6. Accountability
7. Love For God’s People
8. A Team Player
9. Both Husband and Wife Sense the Call
More details in the link above.
I’m also curious – for those who are looking at leadership in a different light lately, how would you see this model as incomplete or not applicable to the current/future culture?
