Christmas Presenting

Last week we heard of a family in our area who had fallen on hard times and needed help. This week we collected gifts for the family, and last night we delivered many of them. More are soon to come.

I invited another one of the pastors here in the valley to join us in helping this family, if they wanted to. They were fantastic, giving way more than we expected, and way more than we did.

I spent some time at the end of last week speaking with the mother of the family and the grandmother. The grandmother had found our website and seen that our goal was to serve our neighbors, so she sent me an email and described the situation the family was facing and asked if we could help. We bounced some emails back and forth, and I got a good idea of the needs of the family. I then called the family to get some more details worked out, and then let our church know what we were looking to do. They came through abundantly. Between our gifts and those of my friend’s church in addition, we covered the dining room table with clothes, food, books, toys, and lots of things I didn’t get to see before they were wrapped. The family was very appreciative and more than a little overwhelmed.

It’s a good feeling, once again, to be able to serve the practical needs of neighbors as a means of showing the practicality of God’s love.
