Rediscovering Passion

Yes, the kind that includes my wife. Nope, not exactly that passion, but God’s lit up a fire underneath me, and I’m trying to flesh it out a bit before I lose focus.

One of my enduring passions is leadership development – discovering and nurturing and releasing and supporting leaders.

Before I joined the ministry staff of my sending church, I worked as a leader of software testing teams. I loved recruiting, hiring, training, and especially identifying new leaders. When I was working on staff at our sending church, that was one of my focuses – leadership development in the context of our church. In the last 18 months or so, the majority of our initial leadership team has left, and we’ve had new leaders come. Finally we get to rebuild!

To revisit this, I’m looking at a ton of old work I did at mama church, and some other good discussions:

These at Radical Congruency: This one referencing Dwight Friesen, and this one finishing up a series in search of a leadership paradigm.

We’re doing another leaders meeting tomorrow, and planning a retreat for mid-Jan. I love being able to revisit such a deep passion – and especially to revisit the topic with some very, very capable leaders and potential leaders that God has assigned to this part of his team.

I can’t wait to get to the chapter on missional leadership in Guder – Winn mentioned it as worth the price of the book by itself.

I can’t fully describe how invigorated I feel right now.

++God, please let me get this right!!++
