Worship Set :: Sun 10/17

Sunday’s worship set:

Hallelujah (Shout to the Earth) – Reardon
Famous One* – Tomlin
Blessed Be Your Name – Redman
King of Glory – Third Day
God of All Splendor – Helming

* – This was the introduction of the song to the Sunday gathering. I sure we’d done it bofore, but nope. Otherwise we’d have swapped the first two songs.

Since I didn’t craft this particular set list, I’ll just focus on one of the songs, Blessed Be Your Name.

I am enamored with Matt Redman’s lyrics. I think he’s an incredibly gifted songwriter, and this is one of his better recent ones. Consider the lyrics:

Blessed Be Your Name
In the land that is plentiful
Where your streams of abundance flow
Blessed be your name

Blessed Be Your name
When I’m found in the desert place
Though I walk through the wilderness
Blessed Be Your name

(Prechorus)
Every blessing you pour out
I’ll turn back to praise
When the darkness closes in
Still I will say

(Chorus)
Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be Your name
Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be Your glorious name

Blessed be Your name
When the sun’s shining down on me
When the world’s ‘all as it should be’
Blessed be Your name

Blessed be Your name
On the road marked with suffering
Though there’s pain in the offering
Blessed be Your name

(Bridge)
You give and take away
You give and take away
My heart will choose to say
Lord Blessed be your name

How often do you see worship songs that embody BOTH the good and bad times in our lives? Usually we get a lament, “oh this world sucks so please god take us out of it” or a praise “god you’re so great it doesn’t matter who i am”. But this one – blessing the name of God in good and bad places, I love that leadership.
