I’m reading Matt 10-12 or so in The Message this morning. I absolutely love Eugene Peterson’s perspective on Scripture; it comes alive in very unique ways to me.

Here’s a powerful translation of a text you’ve probably heard before:

“Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me–watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.”
– Matt 11:28-30 in The Message

“Learn the unforced rhythms of grace” – how powerful! It reminds me of resting in a hammock in a Caribbean beach, letting the wind and the waves work over me, slowing me down, reacting instead of bullheadedly dashing out against the waves.
