The Kingdom is a Party

Could it be that the reason Christianity is so unattractive to the missing is that Christians don’t really know how to party?

Matthew 9 tells the story of Matthew’s call to follow Jesus. It’s brief, understated, but rich with life – especially when you have “follow me”, and immediately “so when Jesus and the disciples were having dinner at Matthew’s house with a bunch of sinners”…

Last night I had a dream that I finally got to visit my friend Rachelle’s gathering over at ThPM. Visiting is soemthing I’ve wanted to do for a long, long time – but the timing has never worked out. Anyway what struck me about the dream was the huge, gigantic party that the gathering was. Food, laughter, music, abundant conversation. You know the type – the one where the hosts don’t worry about getting people to mingle, but only worry about whether the food has run out prematurely and whether the neighbors are going to call the cops.

This morning, I wonder about how I’ve assimilated Christianity into my life, and how I express my faith to others. It certainly doesn’t often enough look and sound like a party, and I think that’s a huge mistake.
