Sunday High

Sunday was a good day for us. We actually had 7 guests. percentagewise, that’s … uh, scratchthehead, carry the 4, divide by Pi, ..

Well it was big. Our sending pastor and his wife showed up, which was cool. They’re taking a month off and have been out sailing (Roy gets sermon illustrations about life and death situations from his sailing trips). We also had 5 people come from the church that just shut its doors, including my neighbors.

I was terrified. I hadn’t spent much time doing sermon prep, because the Alpha retreat was just too much work. I had studied the text, prayed about how it all fit together, done a very basic outline and hoped it would work out.

Seems like whenever I try to wing it, we have guests beyond our regular crew.

Anyway somehow it worked. (“Somehow”, I realize, was that God heard my desparate cries for mercy). Ministry time was good. I got thoughtful feedback from my regular crew. Good questions got asked.

Another Sunday, escaping by the skin of my teeth (what the (*&$*&$&$* does that mean, anyway?!?
