I got SAVED! tonight

s2b.jpg

Couple of friends from church and I went to see Saved! tonight. It’s playing in two theatres in the greater Seattle area now, and only twice a day. There were perhaps 10 people in the theatre that we went to for a 4:30pm matinee.

The movie was excellent. If you haven’t seen it yet, or were afraid you wouldn’t like it, go. It’s not sharp, biting criticism of the Christian subculture. It’s more like a teenage growing up, finding out who you are type of movie set in a Christian high school. The characters were interesting and had depth. Think Sixteen Candles, but with better writing and acting and a more thoughtful story. Similarly, if you are hoping for mean-spirited sarcasm, you won’t find much of it.

It’s funny. Very funny. Laugh out loud funny, and not in a mean or spiteful way.

There are several moments that I squirmed, uncomfortable with what just happened. But as one of my friends said afterwards, “I found myself uncomfortable at times, and I had to ask myself why”.
