My biggest challenge in my spiritual life right now is to be a simple man, simply a follower of Jesus.

I continue to find myself sensing God’s leading to simplify. To spend less time on events and more on process. To mediate more. To study … well, not less, but more deeply, more meditatively.

I tend to learn by reading, so I’m always reading three, four, seven books at once. Usually I’m reading the most variety when I feel the need to simplify. But then I look at the table in front of me in the coffeeshop in which I’m working on this weekend’s sermon, and I see four books (after paring down my first grab from 7 or 8). I guess that’s a start 🙂
