Last night we held our Alpha kickoff dinner. This is our first Alpha course. All but one of the people that we expected to show up actually did, so that was cool. Maybe 15 adults and 5 kids. Almost half don’t go to our church. Four or five of the adults wouldn’t call themselves Christians.

On my friend and coworker Keith’s recommendation, after dinner and before watching the video for the evening, I showed a clip from Mr. Bean: Mr. Bean Goes to Church. It was hilarious, and well worth all the driving I ended up doing in order to find it on DVD. I introduced it with something like, “some of us have preconceived notions about what church is, and what kind of people go there. Here’s a short film about one person encountering that.”

It’ll be fun to see who comes next week, and even more so to see where this journey takes us as a group!
