There are two ladies who run the senior center, the bulding where we meet for Sunday services and for midweek training (marriage workshop, alpha, …). The one I work with most closely is Janet.
Janet’s husband died unexpectedly last Wednesday. Janet asked me to do the memorial service tomorrow.
Memorial services are both very difficult and very holy. I can’t be funny, irreverent, loose. But there’s a sense of the Holy Spirit’s power that’s tangible.
One part will be cool. This guy, who would have been 53 next week, always told his family that he wanted the Jimi Hendrix tune Purple Haze played at his service when he died.
So I get to transition the Christian story of hope and of abundant life, into Purple Haze. How cool is that?
