To the Ladies

Today, the day before Mothers Day, is recognized as Birthmothers’ day for those of us who have adopted children. For those of you who have, or are, birth mothers, thank you so much for your selfless act of love for your child!

In a larger sense, we’re all adopted kids (at least all of us who are Gentile believers). Consider Romans 8:15-17:

So you should not be like cowering, fearful slaves. You should behave instead like God’s very own children, adopted into his family—calling him “Father, dear Father.” For his Holy Spirit speaks to us deep in our hearts and tells us that we are God’s children. And since we are his children, we will share his treasures—for everything God gives to his Son, Christ, is ours, too. […] (NLT)

And then consider Ephesians 1:5:

His unchanging plan has always been to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. And this gave him great pleasure. (NLT)

Especially for you ladies out there – mothers or not, adoptive or not, I’d like to say this:

THANK YOU to all of our spiritual mothers and sisters – those of you who draw us into God’s own family by your life, by your service, by your prayer. Thanks to those of you who are intercessors and prophetesses and kids church teachers and preachers and poets and urban abbesses and worship leaders. You make God’s family a great place to be.

In the blogosphere in particular, thanks to Rachelle, Jen, Karen, April and Maggi. You show me wonderful reflections of the face of God by your writing and thinking and prayer.
