We do a lot of servant evangelism/ordinary attempts in order to make peoples’ day and find practical ways to serve people.

Today I was in Starbucks, working on my task-list (putting down the things I’d already done today so I could feel a sense of accomplishment :-)) and doing more work on the sermon-discussion this weekend.

A lady with a 5 or 6 year old daughter came by my table on the way out and handed me a Starbucks gift card, said, “this is for you”. I thanked her, surprised, and as she left she said, “bless you.”

I’m not sure why she targeted me. Maybe because she was behind me in line and saw that my last card had run out and I had to fish out pocket change for the balance on my chai latte. Maybe she saw the “Come As You Are/Vineyard Christian Fellowship” bumper stocker that I’ve stuck on the lid of my laptop. Maybe she saw my commentaries on Matthew (this one or this one), or CDP or Missional Church and figured I needed a hit of God-love. Maybe God just told her to do it. Maybe she just felt like it.

In any case, it sure made my day better.
