Due to schedule issues, our 3rd grade niece comes over three times a week to catch the schoolbus from our house.
This morning she came over and had obviously been talking with her mom about grandpa’s health. He’s ill with terminal cancer. She came in the door with this announcement for my wife:
Did you know that your dad could die any day now?
Needless to say, my wife – youngest daughter in the family – was a bit taken aback. Good morning to you too, dear.
But they were able to have a wonderful conversation about how, when Grandpa dies, he will be with God in heaven. And he’ll be there because he believes in Jesus and lives his life for Jesus. And that he won’t be hurting, or crying or sad any more. Down here, we will certainly be sad and crying, because we miss Grandpa, but Grandpa will be with God, and God’s happiness will be so big that Grandpa won’t be sad anymore.
They talked about the difference between earth and heaven.
Of course, we all know this truth about baseball.
And that, my friends, is why heaven is like baseball.
