the friday five

1. What’s the most daring thing you’ve ever done?

Quitting Microsoft to be a pastor, then quitting our mother church to go plant a church. That’s pretty insane. That’s more obvious when it comes time to pay the bills again. You wanna know God is real? Jump out of the boat and try to walk on water on your own power, and then do the same thing when He calls you to.

Easier: bungy jumping, or mountain bike racing, or continuing to ride motorcycles after having an accident or two.

2. What one thing would you like to try that your mother/friend/significant other would never approve of?

Hmm, I dunno. I’ve got ideas for tattoos, but my wife isn’t particularly into that. Nothing major. Oh, there is one thing. I want to sail around the world. My wife gets nasty seasick. I suppose that counts. Sigh.

3. On a scale of 1-10, what’s your risk factor? (1=never take risks, 10=it’s a lifestyle)

Probably an 8, all things considered. I love risk, but I’m not completely stupid. (By my own definition, anyway).

4. What’s the best thing that’s ever happened to you as a result of being bold/risky?

I have a friend who had been hospitalized with pneumonia (his 7th time. I prayed with him over the phone. God healed him, and the doctors couldn’t explain it. Truth be told, I had no faith whatsoever.

Adopting a child is pretty risky, emotionally anyway. That’s been a huge blessing.

5. … and what’s the worst?

Did I mention the motorcycle accidents? Arthritis isn’t too fun, but I don’t have too much. Thank God.
