Ephesians 5:2
Live a life filled with love for others, following the example of Christ, who loved you and gave himself as a sacrifice to take away your sins. And God was pleased, because that sacrifice was like sweet perfume to him.

How many times do I look at the historical event of the crucifixion of Jesus of Nazareth and not grasp its significance? Sometimes I make progress toward understanding it, sometimes I am offended by it.

But looking at the last part of this verse, I noticed an additional piece of the puzzle. The sacrifice of Jesus Christ, given out of love for me (ME!), was like fragrant perfume to God the Father. What a beautiful picture of grace! Of God’s ways being so much more majestic than mine!

Lord, teach me to exhibit sacrificial love! Show me that your love for me was LITERALLY formed in blood, sweat and tears. Help me to love others following your example. Grace, Lord. Grace.
